McGrady said, “Penny is my idol and what I want to be. Because I saw myself from him. I will never let him down when I have the chance to wear that jersey (Magic No. 1).
“I’ll tell you, brother, you can’t say anything bad about pennies in front of me. He is my Michael Jordan, who has everything I appreciate, you know what I mean. He is full of confidence. I love everything about pennies. And I can’t let him down. This is my source of motivation. He is the reason why I wear No. 1 jersey.”
